General FAQ

When will I get updates from my sitter or dog walker?

Your sitter will send a picture message at every visit. If you do not get your update from your sitter please let us know. This is a check step to make sure that your visits never get missed.

Also, the messages sometimes get lost in cyberspace and we want to make sure you see cute photos of your furry buddies from every visit!

How can I schedule visits?

For your first booking, please give us a call so we can get you set up in our system. After that, scheduling online is the best and easiest option. You can also give us a call. It is best to schedule in advance.

We no longer schedule through e-mail or text.

Friends, Neighbors, Cleaners, etc. will be at my house while I’m away. Should I let you know?

Yes! We may refuse service if someone is in your home unexpectedly. It’s super scary if someone is in your home that we do not know.

Please let us know if anyone will be in your house while you are away. This prevents us from calling the police on them.

Do you offer phone or text customer support?

You can give us a call any time – We offer as much phone support as you like while you pet is in our care.

Do I Get to Keep My Lockbox?

Yes 🙂 The lockbox is included with your service. It is yours to keep. 

How are my keys handled?

The lockbox is the best way to handle keys. This ensures that your key is always where it needs to be. You can put a lockbox anywhere you like. The backyard is the most common place were put them

If you keep your keys on file, all keys are coded, so only your sitter can match your key to your house. When keys are not in service, keys are kept in a key safe.

 You can get your keys back at any time. Please call at least 24 hours in advance and we can have your keys ready for pickup at the front desk of 19 Old Town Sq. Suite 238 Fort Collins. We can also ship your keys back to you. We charge $15 to ship keys, Your first key pickup at the office is free. After that, it is $20 each time.

Will I be able to meet my sitter before we leave town?

Yes, we always set up a meet & greet so you can make sure everything is a good fit. We want you to feel comfortable with our service and we want you to know that your pets are in good hands.


What happens at the Meet & Greet?

We take a look at everything we will be responsible for. Our sitters go through a checklist that includes items such as

  • Food & Water dish location,
  • Extra food location,
  • Meal prep instructions,
  • Medical concerns, Medication instructions
  • Favorite toys
  • Where to put scooped litter / poop bags
  • Plant watering instructions
  • Mailbox instructions
  • Setting up your lockbox
  • Going over your pets usual routine
  • Any other details concerning your visits

“Setting up The Door” For Dogs – We also set up the door in a way that simulates how your dog will react when we come to your house while you are away. It’s really easy, we all go outside for a couple of minutes then your sitter(s) will go inside to meet the dogs by themselves. We usually give treats to your dog at this point to build some report 🙂 As long as your dog reacts well and lets us get near them / pet them / put a leash on, then we know we are good to go for your visits.


Will I get the same sitter for every visit?

Your sitter will either be Kyle, Mak, Jenny, Kate, or Willow. We have a team and we cover for each other when your main sitter has days off.  We built our team this way to prevent turnover & burnout. You can see our team’s profiles here

What are your hours of operation? Are they different from your office hours?

Our hours for pet care are from 7:00 am to 9:00 pm. And our office hours are from 9:00am to 7:00pm. While your pets are in our care, you have unlimited phone support.

Are you bonded and insured?

Yes. We have specialized insurance that is specific to our industry. 

Do you have a minimum fee?

We have a minimum fee of $100. If you only need a couple of visits for your first booking, we can keep your remaining balance as a credit in our system.

For example, if you have $60 worth of visits, we will keep the remaining $40 on file for up to one year. This way you never lose that money.

How many years of experience does your company and your staff have?

We hire lifelong pet people. So, lots! We are just now going on our 4th year in business and have completed over 4000 visits. Our sitters generally do 15-20 shadow visits before doing visits on their own.

Do you have a backup person if my sitter cannot make it to my visits?

Yes. Our team covers for one another. We also have backup sitters available if one of our regular team members is not available. 

How do you screen your sitters?

We have a standard application process that we use to screen out the wrong kind of crazy and get the right kind of crazy in (let’s admit it – we are all a bit crazy about what we do!)  We have a hiring manager that conducts phone interviews to screen out more applicants. Then we do an in-person interview, generally at the dog park.

We then do reference checks and finally a background check. Every new member is brought on for a 90-day probationary period where we can let the new hire go for any reason – and they can leave too. Actually, if they are thinking of leaving, we encourage they do. We then do 15-20 shadow visits together to make sure the sitter is doing everything according to the Paws At Home process. By this time, we usually have a pretty good idea if the sitter will be a good fit here. 

What extra fees might I encounter?
  • Last minute booking fee – $10 charge for any service booked within 48 hours of service
  • Travel fee – Visits outside of Fort Collins are quoted individually for a travel fee
  • Visits take longer than scheduled time – An extra $7 for each extra 15 minutes needed
  • We charge $35/hour to pick up pet supplies, pet food, etc  
  • Emergency medical care – In the rare case that this is needed, you are responsible for all medical charges and time spent at a rate of $45 per hour. You sitter will contact you as soon as possible if anything out of the ordinary happens.

Can you bring my mail in?

Yes, mail pickup is included 🙂

Do you do Garden / Plant Watering?

Yes! We can certainly take care of your plants while you are away. If you have a lot of plants with different watering instructions, please label them with a note. 

We charge $4.50 per 15-minutes of garden/plant watering. If you have lots of plants you can group them together in one place on a waterproof surface to save some time and money. This also helps to make sure nothing gets missed. 

What do you do if my trip runs long / delayed flight?

We always make sure we have availability to check on your pets in the situation that your trip runs long. Just let us know and we will have you covered 🙂

Can you put food deliveries in our fridge?

Yes. If a package is marked as a food delivery, we will put it in the fridge right away 🙂

Can you bring packages inside?

Yes, of course. This is included in your service.

My dog has a clicker training routine. Can your dog walkers do clicker work while out on walks?
Yes! We train all of our sitters in clicker techniques. We actually have a Karyon Pryor Acadamy (KPA CTP) Animal Behaviorist on staff that taught us our best practices.

How far in advance do I need to book dog walks?

It is best if you can give us at least 24 hours notice so we can get you on the next day’s schedule. 

When you buy a 10-pack or a 20-pack of visits and you are scheduling 5 or more dog walks per month, we do not charge extra for bookings within 48 hours.

We are usually able to set up same day requests, but during our busiest times (holidays & weekends) we may run short on availability.

If you think you might need a dog walk, but you are not sure – go ahead and give us a heads up and we will be able to cover it. 


What is your cancelation policy for dog walks?

If you cancel a visit, we will just add it as a credit for any future visits that you book.

This gives you flexibility in scheduling and you are not out your cash if your schedule changes. 

Can you help with training my dog?

Yes! We use positive reinforcement techniques that dogs understand. We can work on sit, stay, leave it, loose leash, confidence building, and more while out on our walks.

Can you take my dog to the park?

Yes, dogs love car rides! We can take your pup to a nearby park 🙂

What do you do while out on a walk?

We let your dog explore their world with their nose. A walk where a dog can sniff as they please is more stimulating and helps your dog relax. 

We can also do reward-based dog training while we are out on walks. We can work on sit, stay, leave it, confidence building, and loose leash techniques. 

What time can you come for a walk?

We mostly do mid-day walks, but we can be flexible with the time for the dog walks.

What is your inclement weather policy?

Hot Weather

For days that are in the 90s and above, we take caution. A potty break and indoor playtime is a good alternative to walking your dog when it is too hot.

We also pay close attention to the temperature of black asphalt and white concrete. If we can’t put our hand on it for 5 seconds. That path is too hot for your dog’s pads, they can blister quickly!

Cold Weather

When it is too cold for you to be outside. Your dog is cold too. We start to take caution at Temaptures below 30 degrees F. We will do shorter walks with indoor playtime. 

At 0 degrees or less we do a very short time outside and almost all indoor playtime. Sometimes at 0 degrees or less, some dogs will not even go potty outside.

We stay off salted sidewalks to keep salt off of their pads too.   

Wind is also a factor. If the wind is 10 MPH and the temperature is 20 degrees F, we may treat that as though it is 10 degrees F and do a very quick walk and indoor playtime.

Do you have a leash and harness that you prefer or recommend?

Yes! The best harness for 90% of dogs is the Pet Safe Easy Walk Harness.

Our favorite leash is any 6″ flat basic leash. They are the safest leash, so that is what we prefer. 


How much does Dog Walking Cost?

There are a number of factors that determine the price. If you are in our service area we are working hard to lower our price. Currently, we are charging

  • 15-minute visits start at $17.50
  • 30-minute visits are $19.50
  • 45-minute visits are $14.50
  • 60-minute visits are $29.50
